March is Curves Annual Food Drive month!

For over a decade, the Curves® community has come together to stock the shelves of local food banks. March is Curves of Clintonville’s Annual Food Drive month where we collect non-perishable food for the Clintonville Resource Center.

So a new member can join with no service fee when they sign a one year contract and bring in $30 worth of groceries (or a check in that amount). What a way to get started with your exercise routine and help the needy in your area. Last year we donated approximately 400 pounds of food to the Center. Our current members can earn a reusable Curves grocery bag by bringing in food for us to take to the Center.

So spread the word and start helping people in our community!!

Don’t let the economy wear you down!!

We all know that times are tough for everyone and we all are feeling the pain of a tight economy. But we need to keep in mind that taking care of ourselves and working through the stress is better for us. One way to do that is to keep physically active. Many are thinking that I could save money by quitting my club but this is when you need Curves the most. Being able to come into the club and work out your frustration and stress on the machines, not to mention receiving the support of others in the same situation, will allow you to weather this economic crisis much better.

There is scientific proof that when working out your body releases endorphins which are “neurotransmitters produced in the brain that reduces pain”. These endorphins have been known to induce euphoria. That elated feeling, which can last up to 12 hours for some people, comes from the release of endorphins. This “high” will allow you to cope with whatever issues arise.
So don’t look at the cost of your membership as a “hardship” on your budget – instead look at it as the “necessity” you need to get through this rough period. Things are going to turn around and get better and you want to be healthy and happy when it does. Have a BEAUTIFUL DAY!

Happy Heart Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I think it is appropriate in February that we have focus on Women’s Heart Health. We can make it all about the “heart”. Ask a group of women what the most serious threat to their health is; many say “breast cancer.” But that is incorrect. Heart Disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States, taking more lives than all the cancers combined.

The statistics are alarming:
• 2.5 million US women are hospitalized for cardiovascular illness each year.• 500,000 women die each year from cardiovascular disease (vs. 446,000 men.)• 1 in 2 women will die of cardiovascular disease.• Every 30 seconds 1 woman in the US dies from CV disease.

We can combat this deadly disease by eating right and getting exercise. With Curves, you can get a 30 minute cardiovascular workout three times a week that will keep your heart strong and pumping. As women, we have to put ourselves on the list – make working out a part of your routine. Don’t look at it like a chore…but a necessity. We brush our teeth every day , sometimes twice a day – not because we have to but because we want to keep our teeth healthy and clean. Think of exercise in that same way. You don’t have to workout but if you do you will stay healthy and fit. Be sure to contact your nearest Curves and get yourself back on the schedule of important things to do. Have a BEAUTIFUL DAY!

A word from Joan Richards, Franchise Owner, Curves of Clintonville

Friday, February 9th

Hi everyone…welcome to my new blog. I plan on posting new info every week so be sure to stay tuned. So you now know that I own this franchise of Curves and I want you to know that our facility has the best women in Columbus coming to it. They constantly inspire and amaze me. We have members who have lost over 100 lbs. and attribute it to watching their food intake and getting exercise regularly. Truly three times a week will make all the difference.

In June of 2006, I joined Curves of Clintonville and have faithfully worked out every Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 6 a.m. We have a group of us that meet, work out together and then spend about 30 minutes chatting or working on a jigsaw puzzle. After almost 3 years – I am proud to call them my friends. They continue to encourage me on my weight loss journey and quest to get healthy. Sometimes we even solve the world’s problems – unfortunately the info never leaves the building – but hey, we have fun thinking it through.

If you are not already a member of Curves, you should come in for a visit. The 30 minute circuit training with CurvesSmart gives you a good workout and helps burn calories. Since starting the new CurvesSmart – computerized personal trainer – in October, I’ve lost 13.5 lbs. Keeping my heart rate up and doing the strength training has helped me not only look better but feel GREAT! Be sure to check back as I will be updating weekly with new info. You all have a BEAUTIFUL DAY!
